Dear Parents and Guardians,
Welcome back to the school year 2009-2010. Can you believe that summer is almost over! I hope you and your family had a wonderful time these past couple of months enjoying your time together. Now it is time to get back to work. The staff at Green Valley is looking forward to a great year.
We are undertaking a brand new initiative this year that we believe will help ALL the students be successful. It is called Response to Intervention (and Instruction) or RtI. In short, it’s a way of identifying the literacy needs of ALL the students at Green Valley and pinpointing ways to help in each of the areas. We believe that this is a way of getting all our students proficient in reading. Please come to Back to School Night to learn more
We will also be continuing the successful Positive Behavior Support system (PBS) that we initiated last year. The students and staff responded very well to the way we looked at school and classroom management.
Throughout the year there are many opportunities to join us at school to find out what is going on and to enjoy the hard work that your children are doing. More information will come home as those days approach but please be aware of the following dates and mark your calendars:
August 17th- 4:30-6:00 Popsicle party and meet your children’s new teachers<o:p></o:p>
August 19th – First day Back for students
September 1st- 6:30-8:00 Back-to-School Night
October 26th and 27th- Parent/Teacher conference evenings-4:00-8:00 each night (dates may change).
There are also 5 early release days this year. School will dismiss 3 hours earlier that the regular bell schedule. Those dates are:
October 16; December 9; January 19; February 11; April 19
As always, we welcome your help and participation in your child’s education. There are many committees and events that we need your assistance. Please volunteer to help in the classroom, playground, office, PTA and Collaborative School Committee (CSC). You can obtain more information by visiting the school.
This will be our second year that we have been able to take advantage of a secondary education service (SES) with after-school tutoring for many of our students. Please consider this as yet another way to help your children reach their educational goals. More information will be forthcoming.
