2nd Grade With the 1st Graders!
I am so excited that I am following my first graders to second grade next year. Since we have worked together for a year, I know the students' strengths and weaknesses. We can start the year off with a bang!
I expect to see more growth in reading vocabulary, comprehension, and fluency. They will be striving to read level 26 books. These books have fewer picture clues. They tell more about the story and less what the words are. There are several lines of text on one page and the sentences are not always at the bottom of the page.
In writing, we'll work more on punctuation, spelling, and writing like an author - writing stories for other people to read. The students will write an all-about book complete with a table of contents. They will do their own research to write their stories.
Math will go deeper into number sense and algebraic thinking. It will build on the concepts we studied this year. We have some fun science and social studies units planned. I'll be looking for you next year. Have a happy summer!
